Frequently Asked Questions

What You Will Need to Complete Your Application

It is strongly recommended to have all supporting documentation available and/or prepared prior to starting your application. It is also recommended that prior to beginning the online application, you have electronic copies of the following required supporting documentation. All of these documents must be uploaded online.

Nurse Corps LRP Required Supporting Documents

  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship, Proof of status as a U.S National, or Proof of status as a Lawful Permanent Resident
  • Authorization to Release Employment Information
  • Authorization to Release Information
  • Curriculum Vitae/Resume
  • Official or Unofficial Transcripts from each school attended for nursing education coursework directly related to the attainment of the nursing degree(s), if applicant is seeking repayment for loans received while they attended that institution.
  • Please note that Transcript Documentation should denote enrollment dates as well as the dates any nursing degrees were awarded. If the transcripts do not provide information regarding nursing degree dates, additional supporting documentation will need to be submitted to verify the date of degree conferment (i.e. copy of diploma/degree).
  • Loan Supporting Documents that are bank issued and reflect account number, original date of loan, and original amount of loan.
  • Documentation that Perkins Loan is NOT Eligible for Cancellation (If applicable)

Questions about the Online Application

1. Questions about the Eligibility Section

2. Why am I not able to proceed with the application after completing the Eligibility Section?

The questions in the Eligibility Section determine eligibility to participate in the Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program. If an individual does not pass the initial screening portion of the online application they will not be eligible to apply. Please refer to the Application and Program Guidance for eligibility constraints.

3. How can I update my contact information?

You can update your contact information on the Account Settings Page at any time during the application and after submission.

4. Why is my Social Security Number (SSN) needed?

Your SSN is used to verify that each applicant only fills out one application. When your SSN is saved, it will be used to check if it is on record for a current or defaulted participant for any of the scholarship or loan repayment programs part of BHW. If your SSN is found to have an existing service obligation or have defaulted on a service obligation at BHW, you will not be able to proceed.

5. I do not see the site or school where I am employed.

Nurse Corps LRP - NF applicants must be employed as a full-time nurse faculty member at a public or private accredited school. If you do not see your school, the school at which you are employed may not be accredited or is under provisional accreditation. If you do not see your school, please contact the Customer Care Center at 1-800-221-9393 (TTY: 1-877-897-9910), or Contact Us to verify the accreditation of your school. If your school is accredited, this information will be updated, and then you will be advised to return to the online application and select your school. Please do not select a different school, as this will cause delays in processing your application.

Nurse Corps LRP applicants must work at a Critical Shortage Facility (CSF), defined as a health care facility located in an area experiencing a significant shortage of nurses, as indicated by the Federal designation as a health professional shortage area (HPSA). For more information regarding the different types of Critical Shortage Facilities and HPSA scoring and designation, please refer to the Program Overview of the Application and Program Guidance. If you do not see your facility, it may not be designated as one of the eligible Nurse Corps LRP CSF types or have a Primary Care or Mental Health HPSA designation as of January 13, 2022. If you do not see your facility, follow the instructions for contacting the Nurse Corps LRP for help in locating your site and to determine its HPSA score and designation status as of January 1.

6. What is the purpose of the Self Certification Section?

You are required to certify to the accuracy, truthfulness and completeness of your application and information you entered in the online application.

7. How can I upload my supporting documents?

All supporting documents can be uploaded via the online application. If you do not have an electronic form of this document you can scan it, save it, and upload it. All documents must be uploaded on the online application. Applicants are encouraged to upload PDF documents that do not to exceed 5 MB. Please note that one consolidated supporting document should be submitted for each required document.

8. How do I know the status of my online application and any supporting documents I have uploaded?

Log into the Online Application portal to track the status of your application and supporting documents. Your application is complete once the online application has been submitted and each supporting document has a status of received. Please be advised that email notifications will be sent to you with reminders. It is your responsibility to keep your contact information current and correct.

9. How will I be notified about application updates and awards?

Once an application is complete, any status updates or award notifications will be sent via email. All applicants will be notified by September 30, 2022 as to whether or not they received an award.

It is your responsibility to ensure that your contact information is current and correct by logging into the Online Application portal and verifying your information and updating your information by making changes through the Account Settings link.

10. Can I edit my application after it is submitted?

Applicants can return and edit their application, remove or upload additional forms, upload documents and withdraw their application from consideration for an award prior to the application close date. After the application close date, no edits are allowed; however, applicants are allowed to withdraw an application from consideration for an award at any time prior to a contract being signed by the Secretary.

11. Where can I print a copy of my submitted online application?

Log into the Online Application portal and navigate to the application home page. There will be a link that displays a read-only version of the online application that you submitted. A copy can be printed from there.
